Five Tips for Improving Your Golf Swing
The game of golf involves many different skills and abilities. You must be able to judge distance, read the slope of the landscape, calculate the effect of the wind, choose the right club for the right scenario, keep a golf cart on the cart path, and hit the ball properly. Of all the different aspects of game of golf, hitting the ball is the most important. If you can predict the speed of the green, calculate how much spin you will need, and identify all the hazards and how to avoid them, but you cannot step up to the ball and do to it what you need to do, your game is terrible. Being able to mentally work through the game is important but being able to physically do what your mind has worked out is vital. On the other hand, if you don’t really know what the green will do and couldn’t tell how much spin to put on the ball if your life depended on it, but you can hit the ball well, your game is solid. Here are five tips that will help you to make your swing better.
Think about it, and then stop thinking about it
The problem that many golfers have with their golf swing is that they are thinking too much about what they need to be doing. Before you step up to the ball you need to have already worked out all the mechanics of your swing, that way all you have to do is get set and hit the ball. When standing behind the ball you have a much better perspective than when you are standing perpendicular to your ball’s line. Go ahead and think everything through from behind the ball so that you don’t miscalculate because of a skewed perspective. Another reason to make all of your decisions before stepping up to the ball is so that you do not distract yourself. If you are still pondering and calculating while you are trying to swing, you will inevitably hit the ball badly because you will have rendered yourself unable to concentrate on what you are doing.
Don’t camp out next to the golf ball
Don’t spend a lot of time in your golf stance. The more time you spend in front of the ball, the more opportunity you give yourself to begin second guessing yourself. When you start that, you will get distracted and mis-hit. Once you have decided on your shot just walk over to the ball, obtain a proper stance, take deep breath, and hit the ball. The breath allows you to relax a little more, which will result in you being able to hit the ball more precisely.
